Barrier-free construction means a lot of different things to people, and depending on who you are talking to, it could be something as simple as a grab bar for the bathtub or something a whole lot more involved. Thinking that making a home accessible or barrier-free will make one’s home look like the nursing home/hospital can actually be quite far from the truth.
A lot of manufacturers have come on board to produce products that are not only accessible but esthetically pleasing for everyone. An example of this would be the curb-less shower.
The projects that Nord Alta has been involved with have been for individuals with life changing circumstances, events that changed their lives completely forever, such as ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), MS (multiple sclerosis) and diabetes, as well as disastrous events such as automobile accidents and injuries due to the Afghanistan war.
All of these individuals have one thing in common and that's reclaiming some of their lost independence through barrier-free or universal design.
