Here is an accessible renovation project that we completed just off of Whyte Ave in a condo. A lot of planning went into this project before we started because there were elements that we’ve never dealt with before. We had to come up with a storage solution for a medical device inside a bathroom to prevent moisture getting at the device and we also had some barn style doors put in. Over all, this project definitely turns heads.
Edmonton Bathroom Project Highlights
Inside the closet, we have a couple of triangular shelves at a lower height so the homeowner can access them from his wheelchair. The upper portion of the closet is where the medical lift is stored when not in use.
Another peek-a-boo! If I ever get around to publishing a “Where’s Michael?” book, I’ll definitely include this photo.

- We replaced the tub with a new one and added a grab bar as well as a holder for the shower head. The rail overhead helps the homeonwer transfer from the chair to the tub.
- Our very first project with a barn door. The door has a clear maple finish with trim in a darker stained maple. The challenges of installing a barn door are a few. First, there needs to be a wide enough hallway as to avoid the handle hitting you as you go by. Second, the wall needs to be free of switches and plugs and third, the wall must be opened up to install backing for the hardware to be mounted.
- The door jambs are finished in a stained maple and our flooring is tile over top an un-coupling membrane.
