The start of 2016 promises to be great for those looking to remodel their home. Whether you’re looking to refresh and revitalize your bathroom or evolve your kitchen into a functional work of art, there is no better time to get started on your dream remodel project. Here are 3 trends for Edmonton homes in 2016 that you should keep an eye on.

It should look good, but it should also feel good too.

Everyone knows that walking across a tile floor in January in Edmonton is a eye opening experience if you’re not wearing slippers. It’s cold. A trend we’re seeing with flooring is using luxury vinyl to simulate the look of ceramic tile (or wood) without having some of the drawbacks of natural products. Luxury vinyl looks great, is warm to the touch, and wears well.

Good looking products that feel great are also showing up other areas too. Here we see cabinet doors with a textured melamine surface and in the other kitchen, the bevelled tile used in the back splash gives some texture to a usually smooth surface.

More Efficient Storage and Less Clutter

The old mantra for kitchen cabinets was more storage, more storage, and more storage. The new trend for 2016 is for more efficient storage. This includes deeper drawers to hold pots, pans, and small kitchen appliances as well as pull out racks for just about everything from spices to waste bins.

More Natural Light

We don’t get as much natural light as our cousins south of the border, so we’re remodelling our home to get the most out of the sun’s natural rays. New windows and patio doors let the natural light in, but are insulated better maximize their energy efficiency.
